Five Easy Environmentally Friendly Solutions

By choosing to do those things that are eco friendly, you can help to sustain and protect the earth. Every small change is important because it can make a difference ultimately. Here are five easy to do eco friendly changes that you may want to try out.

1. Carpool. See if you can carpool with co-workers or fellow students. From a personal point of view, by putting fewer miles on your vehicle you’ll cut down on maintenance and fuel costs. From a community point of view, carpooling cuts down on the amount of emissions that are being released into the atmosphere and makes for a healthier environment. Carpooling is a great solution when you can’t use public transit to commute.

2. Think smart when it comes to your car. Your car’s efficiency is affected by how you drive and how well you take care of routine maintenance and since you own the vehicle, it’s all up to you. Avoid excessive stopping and starting when you drive and accelerate smoothly for better fuel economy. When it comes to routine maintenance, checking tire inflation and getting regular tune-ups will ensure that you get the best possible performance from your car.

3. When travelling, go green. To minimize your impact on the earth, choose the eco friendly option. For instance, train travel is easier on the environment than car travel. When travelling by air, travel light. For hotel stays, use the same towels and sheets for at least a few days. If you’re renting a vehicle, go with the most fuel efficient model available. Going green when travelling, doesn’t minimize the fun.

4. Use reusable shopping bags instead of the single use plastic bags that are creating major problems in landfill sites. This is such an easy idea to put into practice. Leave some of these bags in your car. It won’t be long before you automatically reach for a cloth bag to take with you from the car to the store. Why not tuck a couple of these reusable bags in your suitcase when going on vacation. You’ll find that these sturdy bags are great to use for souvenirs, groceries, or other shopping.

5. Go with a reusable water bottle rather than buying bottled water. Plastic water bottles are clogging up our landfill sites at an alarming rate, however there are biodegradable options available. Don’t let the producers of plastic water bottles convince you that your tap water is unsafe. This is just a ploy to convince you to buy your drinking water. Put a filter on your tap or buy a water jug with a built-in filter system and keep a full jug of cold water in your fridge. For out of home use, consider purchasing a BPA-free water bottle that can be reused or one that is stainless steel. These will keep your water tasting fresh and refreshing without spending a small fortune on plastic water bottles.
